Did you know? We are born with billions of FAT Cells?

This is possibility one of the most important email you will ever read!  Please take 8 minutes and read the whole letter, then email me with your thoughts!

In this letter we discuss:

•           We are all born with billions of fat cells

•           Why some people gain and loss weight all their life and are still overweight

•           Why some people are underweight and no matter what they do they can’t gain weight

•           Why weight loss (fat loss) gets harder and harder ever time you try

•           Why is there no miracle drug or pill that will ever solve your weight problems

•           What your body needs and what you body gets

Did you know that every single person on planet earth is born with fat cells?
Fat cells act as a survival mechanism in times of death and was extremely useful hundreds of years ago when our forefathers only ate once every 10-14 days!  Food was not as regularly available as it is today!

As Dr David Heber always says: “The aquarium has changed not the fish”, meaning the human body, its functions and metabolism has not changed at all in the last 2000 years, but the environment has.

Back to the Fat Cells we are all born with.  It is now clinically proven that each person is born with trillions of cells and billions of fat cells.

We all need fat cells to maintain normal bodily functions and therefore it is not necessary a bad thing to have.   However, having said that fat cells are also the reason why some can’t lose weight and keep it off.

I am going to use easy numbers, just to illustrate how fat cells operate. Let’s assume you were born with 100 000* fat cells, each fat cell can expand and hold about 1ml* of content (fat).

In time of malnutrition, (when your body does not get everything it needs) your body goes into a slow down and storing phase.  Your body might be looking for protein, or amino acids, your body creates a craving “hoping” you going to eat protein, but you have no idea it’s looking for protein and you eat as an example a sandwich or a pack of chips (fibre and carbohydrates).  Now your body still need the protein, but it only got fibre and carbohydrates.  Your body will continue the craving process and keep going until you eat the right protein.  At the same time when it’s in starvation mode and has no idea when it will get protein, the excess (fibre and carbohydrates in the example) is now converted to body fat and stored in the fat cells.

Each Fat Cell can only hold so much, once it reaches it maximum capacity (1ml*) it mutates and forms 2 x smaller cells.  Each of the 2 x smaller cells can now grow, expand and store more body fat.  Yes, that’s right, you had 100 000 fat cells, malnutrition, lack of the right balance and so on causes your body to store body fat in its fat cells and then when the maximum volume is reached, the cells mutates in order to make more space.

You now have twice as much (200 000*) fat cells and twice as much storing capacity.  It’s a snowball effect and the more malnutrition and lack of nutrition you experience the more you body stores.

What is even more scary it that once you have those extra fat cells you can never get rid of them again!!!!

You are basically stuck with them.  It you don’t control the body fat%, the fat cells keep multiplying and storing.

When someone decides to go on a “diet” they basically want to get rid of the body fat (not the muscle, the organs and certainly not their bones).  By going on a diet or taking a chemical to control your appetite they force their body to use up the reserve energy stored in the fat cells.  Let’s face it, when you don’t eat your body does not stop the heart and lungs until your next meal and then start working again.  What happens is you lose weight because your body needs to maintain normal vital functions and it uses the body fat as energy.  In the long run though this process of cutting nutrition or staying without food affects your metabolism and has the opposite effect to weight loss.  It also sometimes manifests as an illness, stress, chronic fatigue, and yes you guest it rapid weight gain.

So trying to control your weight by cutting your food intake, or skipping meals is not the best plan and here is another reason why: Have you ever noticed trying to lose body fat, you lose 2 or 3 kg’s on the scale but your body shape is different?  Right, this is because simply staying without food or starting an exercise program without the right nutritional intake causes your body to convert the muscle mass into amino acids to maintain vital body function.  You might be very happy with the weight loss on the scale, but in the mirror your shape is different. Click here to read more about body fat% in our previous newsletter.

What happens to the fat cells when you lose body fat?
Once you have fat cells you are stuck with them, you can’t cut yourself open and remove them….

The moment you start losing body fat, the volume inside your fat cells decrease until it’s empty.  Almost like a plastic bag. You can put all your groceries in the bag, when you done you a fold it up and store the plastic bag in a space 1/100th it size.

Fat Cells are the same; they lose their volume and space, but remain in your body for when you next need them!  Next time your body is left malnutrition the fat cells are utilised to make sure you can survive; your body quickly fills the empty fat cells.  Rapid weight gain is the results and in many cases you lose 4 or 5 only to gain 6 or 7.

Weight gain during pregnancy:
Woman can store loads of body fat during pregnancy in preparation for the birth of their child.  This is a survival mechanism, especially when the mother doesn’t get the right nutrition while pregnant. The woman’s body starts storing body fat to make sure the newly born baby will be fed or kept alive even if there is not adequate food supply available.  Now we all know that in today’s day and age, there is more than enough food for the new born baby, but while the mother is pregnant that is not the message the pregnant mother’s body is getting.

Pregnant mothers are often asked so what are you craving for???  The mother will only crave something it their body is not getting the right nutrition.  Nature prepares the mother just in case there is not enough, even if the mother mentally know she will have enough to feed the baby, subconsciously the body is storing (filling the fat cells) and making provisions just in case the “environment” outside the womb is not ideal.

What is the solution? How to lose weigh and keep it off:

1. You need to make sure your body gets the Recommended Daily Requirements (RDR) like proteins (amino acids), good carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fats, oils, water, etc without all the extra calories.  Today’s foods is packed with thousands of cheap calories and almost no nutrition.

- A recent study in Germany took oranges from 5 different supermarkets (farmers) and tested it for its Vitamin C content.  The results were staggering and trigged a German health department investigation; it was found that 2 of the 5 oranges tested had ZERO Vitamin C and the other 3 less than 15% of the RDR.

- Ask yourself this question, when you buy fruits and vegetables, how on earth do you know if it has then intended nutrients in it??  There is no law forcing farmers or supermarkets to show the nutritional value of fruits and vegetable.  BUT, all our dog food has a label on it stating the contents?  It seems we have a better idea of what our dogs eat.

- Look at your plate tonight, how many question marks do you see?

- Make sure you eat a balanced (protein based) breakfast.

-  Eliminate sugar and chemicals to enhance your foods.

2.  Exercise, simple active lifestyle increase your normal body function and helps heart health.

-  You don’t have to overdo it.

-  ½ hour per day of any physical activity will be magic.

-  Do something fun, play a game with your kids, take the dog for a walk, or simply take a walk in your neighbourhood.

3.  Make sure you feed your body ½ hour after you wake up in the morning.  Enjoy protein based snacks during the day and eat nothing at least 2 hours before you go to bed.

-    Kick start your day with a protein breakfast.  Click here to see what happens when you don’t

-  Breakfast cereal and milk is not as good as the TV wants you to believe.

-  Carbohydrates spikes your insulin levels

4. Drink enough water, click here to read what water can do for you.

- Start right now, go drink 2 -3 glasses of water

- When going to the loo and your water has a colour or it smells your body is not in balance

- Drink enough water until your water is clear and has no smell.

- Hunger is often mistaken for thirst. You might feel hungry, but all a long you were thirsty!

- The majority of headaches, colon, and constipation problems are as a result of not enough water.

5. Take in less calories than what you burn

-   Make sure your RDR – nutritional intake is not cut, as this will not help the process, but rather slow you down.

-  Herbalife does just that, cut your calories, but increase your nutrition.

I have reached a stage, I can lose to a certain weight and then I can’t lose anymore. Why?
The answer: You need to convert your body from sugar burner to fat burner.

(1 month is not enough to do this, it is a process and the sooner you realise this, the better).

How? Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition!!

Increase in your nutrition = Increase in Metabolism = Reduce Body Fat

Maintaining you muscle mass with the right nutrition, increase your resting metabolic rate which forces your body to use up the body fat while maintaining muscle tone.

Balance Nutrition (without all the empty calories) = Ideal “environment” = Normal body function

Cutting calories without cutting nutrition with normal food is just not possible.  Under normal circumstances when you cut calories, you also cut the nutrition, which has the opposite effect on your health.  You body remains in the storing of body fat mode and store, burn store, burn.  The extra calories (sugars) is burned and stored, from where it’s only converted when your starve yourself.

Increase in nutrition (without all the calories), forces your body to get the energy it needs from the food you eat, while converting the body fat into fuel. When your body is getting everything it needs, the increase in metabolism = increase rate of calories burn while at rest.

Your body starts converting the body fat and no longer needs it!!!

The fat cells stay empty!!!!! Problem solved!

Did you know that your age or genes has ZERO to do with how you look and feel?
I get this often, my mother or father is overweight that is why I am overweight, I have inherited it….. bullocks!!!

Genes can’t be blamed for your state of being.  What you consume determines your health!

You are what you eat.

Your age also has ZERO to do with how you look.

It’s all about your nutrition! Our containers (bodies) were designed to live for 100 years plus…. what we put into it causes it to break down and malfunction.

Many people will service and refuel their cars more often than they service or look after their own bodies.

Stop saying it’s because of this or that that I have a health problem or weight issue and face the facts:  Change your nutrition and change your life!!!

For all the reasons explained above, you need to ensure your body gets the right RDR every day, the rest your body will take care of.

Your job is to give it the right ingredients; your body will do the magic!!!

I am underweight, why?
Well you are not alone and yes there is a solution for you as well.

99% of people are either overweigh or under weight and only 1% is in balance. This means that you have the same problem as someone who is overweight.  What? Yes if you are underweight it means that you are not feeding your body the right nutrition and instead of your body storing any excess you might consume like someone who is overweight.  When you underweight your body simply discards what it doesn’t need and converts muscle mass into amino acids and uses that. Autopsies performed on people who die of anorexia, showed there was no muscle left, only fat and bone.  The body will use up all the muscle to stay alive.

The underlying problem is empty calories, food with energy but no nutrition. Just by increasing your calories (eating more) you will never gain weight.  You need to increase your nutrition.

If you are underweight you are likely to suffer from no appetite, some health issues as well as fatigue.

Did you know that more than 70% of all health issues are nutrition related?

As little as 3 kg’s of abdominal fat has the ability to act as extra organ cause havoc with your enzymes and hormones.

Being overweight or underweight has the same long term impact on your health.

Think about it 7 out of 10 people who visit the doctor don’t need go!! Don’t need the chemicals the doctor prescript!!! Don’t need to spend thousands on medical bills….unreal!!

Fact: For the first time in history there is 2 Billion Underweight as well as 2 Billion Overweight people in the world.

Illness associated with being overweight:
Chronic Fatigue
Diabetes, type 2
High blood pressure
High cholesterol
Heart disease
Stroke

Heart palpitations

As you can see the majority of illness listed above can be found in both categories.  Whether you under-or-over-weight the long term risk on your health is the same.

Remember, if you give your body what it needs (balanced nutrition) it will perform the miracle.

Just by starting your day with a health breakfast (protein based) you are already going a long way in improving your health!!!

What the body needs:
Protein (amino acids)
Vitamins & Minerals
Trace elements
Fibre
Healthy fats

(Herbalife F1, F2 and Fibre and Herb provide all of the above)

What the body gets:
Excess Sugar & Salt
Fats (bad fats)
Chemicals
Pesticides
Artificial Colours
Preservatives
Pollution
Hormones
Alcohol & Tobacco

As a final note:
Okay, it’s the silly season and the time of the year where we can celebrate the past year, nothing wrong with that.

It is however the time of the year where it’s the most difficult to stay focused on your health goals. Remember the fat cells, we all are born with?  During this time of the year we tend to socialize more and consume more sugars and bad fats our body really does not need. The only part of your body which really enjoy this is the size of a tennis ball; yes you guessed it your mouth.  Think about this, the food you eat…. do you eat it for what it can do for your body, or do you eat it for the taste?

That slice of carrot cake, what are the ingredients?  Sugar, fat, maize (corn, cheap carbohydrate), loads of calories, ZERO nutrition.

What do you think your body does with that??

You consume the energy; it must do something with it?  Yes, it will simply convert it to body fat or burn it (if your resting metabolic rate is normal).

Usually during this time those fat cells are filled to the max and then on the 1st January you want to empty them out again, but as a result of the festive season overeating you now have twice as many as the last time you try to make a change.

Why not start right now?  Why not start to take control on your nutritional intake now, today, this very minute.  Why not??

I want you to enjoy the festive season, but limit yourself to 1, 2 or even 3 days to relax and to enjoy all the foods you want to eat. The rest of the time, make a conscious decision to make healthy choices. When you take the right nutrition you will not crave and feel hungry.  You will control overeating and you will want to make the right choices.

If you need help, staying on track let me know, we are open to help you right through December.

If you looking for the Herbalife solution, reply right now and let me help you and guide you to the new better looking, healthier you!!!

All the best and thanks for your time!

Which is more important?

How are you doing?  Drinking more water?  What did you think of our last newsletter, the importance of water?

This past week I got a bit of a wakeup call…. and I think it’s only fair that I share this with you.

Firstly, please accept my apologies for not doing my bit to explain and educate you on the differences between body fat % and your ideal weight on the scale.

The fact is we all want to look and feel our very best and the image we see in the mirror or the weight on the scale influence the way we feel about ourselves, but which is more important?

  • To weigh less on the scale or to look like a million dollars in the mirror?
  • To have the ideal weight or the ideal body fat %?

My guess is that 90% of you reading this have never thought of the difference and might not even know the difference and which is more important.

Who cares if you look like Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt  and weigh a ton on the scale?  As far as I am concerned you never have to weight yourself again, throw  the scale away and focus on your centimetres only. (Okay I know that is not possible for everyone so try to limit weighing yourself to only once a month or once every  2nd week.)

Ask yourself?

Do I want a fitter, healthier, sexier body?

Do you want freedom from back pain?

Do you want to improve your sports performance?

Burn body fat all day long?

Be your best possible body shape?

Enjoy a healthier, long life?

If YES to any of the above, then you need to know your ideal body fat %. (Just forget about the scale or your BMI or weight on the scale for a couple of minutes, please.)

Right now I want you to shelve any ideas you might have about controlling your weight or any health improvements what so ever and open yourself up for the solutions we are about to share with you.

We at Herbalife want to you to enjoy LONG TERM Success and there is only one way to achieve this, reduce your body fat %

Did you know that your current weight might is not the most relevant measure to help you look and feel better?  The kilograms do matter, but we are not going to focus on the weight on your scale, we are more interested in your body shape in the mirror.

In gyms, playing fields, beaches and bedrooms across the country, our bodies are constantly being measured.  And in the dressing room mirrors and on bathroom scales, we are constantly measuring ourselves.  But let’s set aside those vanity measurements and concentrate on measuring ourselves by a different set of criteria – the body fat %

Important Facts:

The average person has about 30 billion fat cells; each of them is filled with greasy substances called lipids.

When you pump doughnuts, chips and chocolate bars into your system, those fat cells can expand – up to 1,000 times their original size.  But a fat cell can get only so big; once it reaches its physical limit, it starts to behave like a long-running sitcom. It creates spin-offs, leaving you with two or more fat cells for the price of one.  Only problem: fat cells have no return policy.  Once you have a fat cell, you’re stuck with it.

Many of use tend to store fat around our waist (men) or thighs (women) and that’s where the health dangers of excess weight begin.  Abdominal and upper thighs fat doesn’t just sit there and do nothing; it’s active.  It functions like a separate organ, releasing substances that can be harmful to your body.

For instance, it releases free fatty acids that impair your ability to break down hormone insulin (too much insulin in your system can lead to diabetes). Fat also secretes substances that increase your risk of heart attacks and strokes, as well as the stress hormone cortical.

As little as 2kg of extra fat can be deadly and very bad for your overall health.  Fat bears the blame for many health problems because it resides within striking distance of your heart, liver and other organs – pressing on them, feeding them poisons and messing with their daily function.

Let’s look at the solution:

Before we can move on, I have to explain to you why we achieved enormous success over the last 31 years.  That’s right we have thousands of customers who once, just like you were looking for a solution to their problem. We have helped thousands and we can help you.

In order to obtain the perfect body shape you need to know about these important facts:

  • Did you know that you can become leaner by gaining weight?
  • Did you know that losing weight or becoming thiner the wrong way can actually make you fatter?
  • Did you know that in your quest to weighing less, you could have becoming fatter, even when the scale says that you have not gain or lost one gram?
  • Did you know that you could be in your best physical shape ever, but your scale might indicate that you are heavier?

How is that possible?

When one only considers  the weight reading on a scale this could be very difficult to obtain the results you are looking for.

Let me explain, a man with weight: 100kg’s has body fat % of 25%.  This means he carries 25kg’s of body fat.

Another man with similar weight: 100 kg’s with a body fat % of 12% only carries 12kg’s of fat.  As you can see that weight alone cannot be used to determine how fat you are or even how good you look.

Both men weigh 100kg’s but their body composition is different.

We use the body fat % of each Herbalife client to help them achieving their ultimate results.

What about BMI?

Okay, you have all heard of BMI or Body Mass Index.  This index is used by your traditional doctor to determine if you are overweight, underweight, and obese or malnutrition.

The BMI is a formula that takes into consideration your height and your weight.

The problem with this index it cannot be used as a clear indication for your body composition.  Super Athletes with a body fat % less than 4% are considered obese on the BMI tablets.  This is because they have so much muscle mass and muscle weights more than fat.

By the same token someone who according to the BMI tablets of ideal body measurements are at their target weight has a body fat % of 25% and is actually fat.

I am sure that you are starting to realise how misleading your weight as the only measurement of your physical health can be.

Obtaining a health body fat % will make you healthier and looking better than ever before, without thinking about your weight on the scale.

I am sure that you are now ready to know what your body fat % is?  I have a very nice Body Fat % Calculator in Excel.  It will give you a good indication of your current body fat %.  Send me an email with your request and I’ll send you the spreadsheet.

According to the World Health Organisation, men with a body fat % over 25% and woman with body fat % over 32% are at increased risk to suffer from weight related diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.

The average body fat % for both men and woman has increased world-wide and it is now estimated that more than 70% of all doctors’ visits can be traced back to weight problems.

That means that more than 70% of people won’t need a doctor if their body fat % was within the ideal range.

50% of all natural deaths are caused by strokes, heart disease and cancer.

A staggering 70% of all these deaths can be prevented by living a healthy lifestyle with an ideal body fat %. See our previous newsletter, No 1 Killer in SA

I am sure by now you understand that the single most important indicator for your state of health is your body fat %.  By reducing your body fat % you will enhance your look, you will feel better and have more vitality.

More important facts about FAT:

Fat weighs less than lean muscle.  Because of this fat takes up 40% more room or space than lean muscle.  Much the same as 1kg gold vs. 1kg of feathers. It weighs the same, but the volume is far more.

So 1kg fat would make you 40% larger than 1kg of lean muscle.  This is the reason why you can not fit into your clothes, and why you don’t look the same.

Adding fat to your frame, makes you look bigger

As we age it becomes more and more difficult to control our weight and body composition.  As we grow older our lifestyle change too, we become less active and our resting metabolic rate slows down.  Okay I know you are aware of this and that is maybe the exact reason why you are looking for a solution, but here is something you might not be aware of: the average adult gains  about ½kg of body fat every year after age 25 onwards.  Men grow until age 21 and woman grow until age 18.  If you look back at your waistline during those years you probably were 10 – 20% smaller than what you are today.  This also means that your body fat % was 10 – 20 % less than what it is today.

It’s no wonder that some people in their mid forties end up with 10kg of excess body fat.  To add to the problem incorrect eating habits and lack of exercise results  in most adults beginning to lose health muscle as they age. Their body composition changes and used muscle gets replaced by fat.

Remember we said at the beginning of this analysis you should not use your weight as an indicator to your personal health.  The secret to healthy, safe weight loss is to focus on losing FAT without sacrificing the lean muscle mass.

Warning: Remember this next time you think about going on a quick fix crash diet:

Most people when overweight go on crash diets.  They stop eating for days, using appetite controllers and energy boosters to get them through their days.

During the period you body uses  muscle to supply the all necessary amino acids to maintain vital body functions such as sight, heart beat and brain functions.  Your body goes into starvation mode and when you do eat anything it gets stored as fat.

After a week of crash dieting they weighed themselves, weighed  lighter on the scale, but all they lost was muscle mass and water.

Here is an example:

A woman weights: 65kg at the start of a diet, her body fat % = 30%. This means that she has 19.5kg of fat.  The woman decides to simply cut the calories she consumes with no exercise.

She looses weight and now weighs: 60kg.  In the process of simply cutting calories, she has not burnt fat, but has in fact lost water and muscle mass, her body still carries 19,5kg of fat.

In the process of trying to weigh less on the scale the woman has in fact starved her body and lost water plus heavy muscle.  Her body fat % now = 33%.

The woman is now fatter and at more risk health wise, than when she started her diet.

The sad thing is, as everyone who has been on one of those diets before, it only a matter of time before the weight start creeping back and you again weigh 65kg or even more.

Great, we have explained to you why body fat % is more important that what you weight.  By now you understand the dangers of quick fix crash diets, and why losing fat and not muscle will give you long term results.  Looking better in the mirror is more important that weighing less on the bathroom scale.  You can determine your body fat % using the spreadsheet (just send me an email with your request), then decide what your ideal body fat % is.  Decide if you want to be in the Athlete, Lean or Normal range.

Then let’s get you on to the Herbalife Nutritional Program and reduce the body fat %.

Please note:

Many individuals have such a high body fat % (although they do not realise this).  Their bodies have been operating in starvation mode for such a long time, that for the first 2-3 weeks using Herbalife’s nutritional range they replace the “lost” muscle mass and reduce their body fat, but because they only monitor the scale and not their centimetres they think they are not getting a results.  Some get despondent and some quite.  PLEASE do not make this mistake.

When you get onto Herbalife’s weight Management programs you increase your nutrition.  Your body will try to rectify all the imbalances, replace muscle mass while reducing body fat.  Monitor your centimetres and you will notice you becoming smaller and looking better in the mirror.

Example:

Elise van Heerder, Katu (Northern Cape)
Elise started on Herbalife and in her first month only lost 2kg’s.  Understandable she was a bit unhappy, but when I asked her to take her centimetres she realised that she has lost body fat as her total centimetre loss for the first month was 45cm’s around her waist and upper thighs.

Her 2nd month she lost 6kgs and further 25cm’s about her waist and thighs.

3rd month: 5kg’s and 15cm’s

4th month: 4kg’s and 9cm’s

5th month: 1kg’s and 11 cm’s

6th month: 3 kg’s and 12 cm’s

7th month: 7kg’s and 7cm’s

Total: 28kg’s and 1,5meter (all over her body) in 7 months

Average: 4kg’s per month, but in her first month only 2kg’s and month 5 only 1kg.

If Elise was only looking at the scale she would have quit and gave up on her ideal weight and looking her best.

Bev from Randburg

Lost 29cm’s her first 2 months, but 0kg’s on the scale.

After 3 months on Herbalife she lost 5kg’s and was 44cm’s smaller.

Total weight loss: 9kg’s over 4 months and 3 x dress sizes.

Dirk Jan Hofer, Vanderbijlpark

Dirk gained 12kg’s on Herbalife but shrunk from size 42 >> 34 pants over 4 months.

Are you taking enough fibre?

Judging by the commercials on TV, food companies have finally realized that fibre is a healthy addition to a good diet. It is about time.

While it is no miracle food, failure to get enough in your food can lead to a number of health problems.

Among the health benefits of are:

  • Relieving constipation and hemorrhoids
  • Preventing certain diseases
  • Keeping weight under control

Healthy Digestive System

Absorption of food in the small intestines can only happen when the microvilli is clean and active.  When you consume a diet low in fibre (soluble and insoluble), your digestive system slows down, causing food to pass through your body slowly and as a result forms a plague which fools your body into thinking there is no food available and that you are living in a famine or dearth.  You might be living a balanced lifestyle and enjoying a balanced diet, but your body simply cannot absorb the nutrition.  This, in turn, slows down the metabolism and causes hunger pangs.  Your body is looking for food, making you hungry, when you eat something 9/10 times it cannot be absorbed, often it is packed with sugars and fats and unhealthy foods your body does not need.

Imagine you don’t brush your teeth for about 2 years.  Yes you will have plague build-up on your teeth and all the problems that go with that.  This is exactly what happens in your small intestines and microvillus when you don’t get the recommended amount of fibre every day and the right amount of water.

Your body might think it’s in starvation mode, not getting the right nutrition on a daily basis, but the actual problem is absorption of food and nutrients. You remain hungry even after you have eaten, continuous hunger causes you to consume far more calories than you would if your body was in balance or your villi was working properly.

Weight gain happens when you eat food your body is not looking for and because the metabolism has slowed.  The food consumed is not digested and gets converted to body fats.

Lack of enough fibre can also be the reason why some experience a problem being under weight. Your body starts using muscle to perform vital bodily functions, without storing any body fat.

Healthy Villi

Fibre absorbs large amounts of water in the bowels, and this makes stools softer and easier to pass. Anyone starting a higher-fiber diet will notice the difference in stool bulk and in almost all cases, increasing fibre in the diet will relieve constipation within hours or days.

Because stools are easier to pass, less straining is necessary, and this can help relieve hemorrhoids.

NOTE: you need to also take the correct amount of water in order to make sure Fibre does its job!  Click here to read more about water.

By improving the solidity and bulk of solid waste it also helps to keep those who are aging more regular, less constipated. The result, supported by many studies, is (among other benefits) a reduction in the odds of colon cancer.

Insoluble fibre, so-called because it doesn’t dissolve readily in water, can be found in nuts, wheat bran, whole grains and many vegetables. But there’s another kind called, not surprisingly, soluble fibre. As the name suggests it does dissolve readily in water. It, too, has benefits.

The soluble variety is found in citrus fruit like oranges and lemons, apples, beans, oats and barley grain. Among its other virtues, studies strongly suggest that some soluble fibers (beta glucan) can help reduce cholesterol.

Absorption area of healthy villi

Absorption area of inactive “flat” villi

Getting enough in the diet can lower the risk of developing certain health conditions:

Heart disease. Evidence is now growing to support the notion that foods containing soluble fiber can have a positive influence on cholesterol, triglycerides, and other particles in the blood that affects the development of heart disease. Some fruits and vegetables (such as citrus fruits and carrots) have been shown to have the same effect. Soluble fiber is made up of polysaccharides (carbohydrates that contain three or more molecules of simple carbohydrates), and it does dissolve in water. (such as oats, rye barley, and beans)

Cancer. The consumption of fiber speeds up the passage of food through the body. Some experts believe this may prevent harmful substances found in some foods from affecting the colon and may protect against colon cancer. Other types of cancer that may be prevented by a fiber-rich diet include breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and uterine cancer.

Diabetes. Adding fiber to the diet helps regulate blood sugar levels, which is important in avoiding diabetes. In addition, some people with diabetes can achieve a significant reduction in their blood sugar levels and may find they can reduce their medication or do without it altogether.

Gallstones and kidney stones. Rapid digestion leads to a rapid release of glucose (sugar) into the bloodstream. To cope with this, the body has to release large amounts of insulin into the bloodstream, and this can make a person more likely to develop gallstones and kidney stones (in addition to diabetes and high cholesterol). Additional fiber in the diet will slow digestion and lessen the effects of insulin.

But, as with every other aspect of diet, it’s best to have everything in the proper proportion. What is that, in the case of fiber? The recommended consumption for the average adult over 50 years of age is 21g for women and 30g for men. For those under 50 the amounts are 25g for women, 38g for men.

Of course, that’s only an average (for men about 80kgs, women around 55kgs). You’ll want to consult tables to find out the needed amounts for your weight. There are those rare individuals who are sensitive to certain foods and they will need to seek out sources that suit their particular circumstances.

But, as a rough starting point, there are several common foods that will be right for most.

A cup of raisin bran cereal has 7g of fiber, and is usually manufactured with helpful vitamins as well. A cup of oatmeal is a good source, even though it only contains 4g. A half-cup of cooked black beans contains about 7.5g. A half-cup of tomato paste has nearly 6g, while a half-cup of cooked Lima beans has nearly 7g.

Bran muffins have been touted as a good source, and that’s true, they are. But many also are high in fat and sugar, so exercise moderation and seek out a low-fat type. A couple dozen peanuts can also be a good source, but here again they are high in fat. Control the urge to get large amounts of fiber from them. You don’t want to pile on the calories when getting needed nutrients.

Many fruits are a good source, including raspberries (1/2 cup contains 5.5g), blackberries (1/2 cup has 3.8g) and apples (3.3g per apple). Even pumpkin is a good source (3.5g in 1/2 cup), but this too can be a source high in fat and sugar, if it’s in the form of pumpkin pie.

A slice of bread has 2g, so the average sandwich will supply 4g. But be sure to get whole grain bread, not the ultra-processed white. The flour used to make white bread is ground so finely that the fiber is destroyed.

Put both soluble and insoluble fiber in your diet and be good to yourself.

Healthy Immune System

70% of the human body’s immune cells are located in the small intestine. Wow! No wonder it affects the overall health and immune system of your entire body. 1% of the population has Celiacs Disease, which is high, but, 40% of the population is gluten intolerant.

Healthy vs Unhealthy Colon

Power of Protein

While walking around the Nelson Mandel Square I noticed that more than 60% of people are just passing time, okay I can hear you saying well it was a Sunday ( a rest day) and what else are we suppose to do?  That’s not what I mean.. I mean more than 60% of people look unhappy, tired and off course overweight. It is a known fact that a high body fat % act as an extra organ in your body which causes havoc with every single body function. Apart from having to carry the extra weight around, it affects every aspect of your life.

Today’s letter is about protein, but more importantly it’s about finding the balance.

This time of the year I get a lot of enquiries about Herbalife’s weight management programs. Some people have been on so many different programs without any long term success. Some are desperate, some are curious and others are ready for change.

I had a question this morning with regards to High Protein Diets, here is my answer:

Beware the Dangers of a High-Protein Diet

If you are looking for a quick way to lose weight, it’s easy to get fired up about a high-protein diet. Unfortunately, the American Heart Association, the American Dietetic Association and other health organizations from around the world advise against it.

An initial drop in weight is common with a high-protein diet, but it’s due primarily to water loss. These diets don’t work very well in the long run – nor do they build muscles as they claim. Most important, they can be dangerous, increasing your risk of heart disease, kidney disease and artery damage, and bone loss.

While most high-protein foods contain plenty of vitamin B12 and iron, they are low in other vitamins and minerals. Only a diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, and grains supplies the other nutrients that keep you healthy. (Cellular nutrition, everything in perfect balance)

The Power of Protein:

Protein is a part of every cell in your body, and no other nutrient plays as many different roles in keeping you alive and healthy. The importance of protein for the growth and repair of your muscles, bones, skin, tendons, ligaments, hair, eyes and other tissues is proven since a very long time. Without it, you would lack the enzymes and hormones you need for metabolism, digestion and other important processes.

When you have an infection, you should eat more protein because it helps create the antibodies your immune system needs to fight disease. If you are injured, you may need more, as well, to help your blood clot and make repairs.

Basically proteins are made up of long chains of amino acids. There are 22 different types of amino acid and the body needs all of them to function properly.

Amino acids are chemical compounds containing carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen, which combine together into different structures to form the various types of protein that the body requires.

There are many forms of protein, which all play an important role in the function of the body. For example, collagen is a protein and is vital for the strength, elasticity and composition of our hair and skin.

Essential and non-essential amino acids

When the proteins that we consume in our food are broken down through digestion into individual amino acids, these amino acids are then absorbed and reform in order to create new proteins that are then used by the body.

The 22 types of amino acid are divided into two groups: essential and non-essential amino acids.

There are 14 non-essential amino acids. They are termed non-essential as they can be manufactured by the body and do not have to be derived from food.

The body, on the other hand, cannot produce the remaining 8 essential amino acids itself, and therefore they must be derived from the food that we eat.

Non-essential amino acids are just as important as essential amino acids, as without the other, new proteins that are needed by the body cannot be properly formed. It is therefore vital that a variety of foods are eaten in order to provide the body with all of the amino acids required.

Complete and incomplete proteins

There are some foods that contain all of the 8 essential amino acids required to form the new proteins together with the non-essential amino acids. These foods are called “complete” proteins and tend to come from animal sources of protein such as meat, dairy products, eggs, fish, shellfish and poultry.

The proteins that are termed “incomplete” proteins are usually lacking in one or more of the essential amino acids. They are generally found in vegetable products like fruits, vegetables, pulses, grains and nuts.

However, by combining two or more of the “incomplete” proteins, a complete supply of essential amino acids is available. For example, baked beans on toast or rice and beans will form a complete protein and give the body all the essential amino acids.

What is the exact role of protein in our body?

Protein is required by the body for the growth, maintenance and repair of all cells.

Protein is a major component of all muscles, tissues and organs and is vital for practically every process that occurs within the body such as metabolism, digestion and the transportation of nutrients and oxygen in the blood.

It is also necessary for the production of antibodies, which fight against infection and illness, and is the main nutrient that keeps our hair shiny and healthy, our nails strong, our skin fresh and glowing and our bones strong and healthy.

Which foods are good sources of protein?

The best sources of complete protein are found in animal foods such as meat, fish, shellfish, poultry and dairy produce.

Rule of thumb: the fewer legs the animal has the better the protein.

Eggs are the best source of protein as they contain the highest amount of essential amino acids. Fish is the next best source and is then followed by meat, cereal eaten with pulses, soya beans, oatmeal, rice, peas, lentils, kidney beans and then wholemeal bread.

Try to consume a variety of protein-rich foods, including pulses, fish, vegetables, shellfish and lean meat, rather than just red meat or only dairy products, as some foods that contain high amounts of protein also contain high levels of saturated fat, which is extremely bad for the body.

It is also advisable to swap full-fat foods or foods that are high in saturated fats, for a low-fat version, for example change cheddar cheese to cottage cheese and full-fat milk to semi-skimmed or skimmed milk.

How much protein should we eat each day?

Protein is an important part of our daily diet and it should be consumed every day, although our body does not need as much protein as it does other types of food such as carbohydrates, fruit and vegetables.   Maintaining a perfect balance is the name of the game. Everything you consume needs to be in balance.

Note: Whatever you consume in private will show up in public!

Expert nutritionists recommend that we eat 2 – 3 servings of dairy produce per day and 2 – 3 servings of meat, poultry, fish, shellfish or pulses a day. They also advise us that 10 – 15% of our calorie intake should be made up of protein.

As some protein-rich foods, especially animal produce, are high in calories and bad fat, they should be eaten in moderation and prepared in a healthy way. For example, use grilling and roasting as cooking methods rather than frying or deep fat frying.

Eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables can lower the risk of developing any illnesses that may be caused by eating a diet that consists of mainly meat and if possible try to eat fish, particularly oily fish, at least three times a week.

Is too much protein bad for you?

Although the body needs a certain amount of protein, too much can be harmful for a person’s health.

There is a significant risk of high cholesterol, due to the high amount of saturated fats in certain foods, which could in turn lead to heart disease and stroke.

Too much protein also puts a strain on the liver and kidneys. Foods that contain protein have high levels of nitrogen, which are harmful to the body and must be eliminated. The role of the kidneys is to filter out waste products and therefore an excess of protein will force the kidneys to work harder to remove the nitrogen waste from the body. This stress could ultimately lead to kidney disorders or damage to the body’s filtering capacities.

Due to the inability of the body to store excess protein, any surplus protein that is consumed is then converted into glucose in the liver and either used up as energy or stored as fat.

Some protein-rich foods are high in nucleic acids, which when broken down, are converted into uric acid. Consequently, too much uric acid in the blood can lead to gout, an extremely uncomfortable condition that causes a person’s joints to become inflamed, tender and agonizingly painful to move.

Finally, too much protein in the diet could also lead to osteoporosis (thinning of the bones), as an excess of protein promotes the loss of calcium in the bones through urine.

Can too little protein affect our health?

Just as too much protein is detrimental to our health, too little protein can also affect the body negatively.

Many foods containing protein are also good sources of iron amongst other minerals and vitamins. A lack of iron can result in tiredness and fatigue, leaving the body weak and with little energy.

Protein in the body is lost daily and therefore must be replenished daily through the diet. Too little protein can cause skin problems and generally give us an unhealthy and tired appearance.

Protein is needed to repair and create new cells, tissues, hormones, enzymes and muscles and a lack of protein can prevent these processes from being carried out correctly.

In children, who need a lot of protein to help them grow and develop, not enough protein can lead to a stunted growth and even poor mental development.

So how on earth do you know when you had too much or too little?

Although every person’s body is different the doctor’s and scientist at Herbalife has formulated the Herbalife Formula 1 shake mix to contain the perfect balance between protein, carbohydrates, fats and oils and essential nutrients.

The importance of water – a must read!

-8 GLASSES A DAY KEEPS FAT AWAY-
(Keeps you healthy and energised)

Incredible as it may seem, water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off, although most of us take it for granted water may be the only true “magic potion” for permanent weight loss, improved health and general wellness.  Water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolise stored fat.  Studies have shown that increases in water intake will actually reduce fat deposits.

Here is why: the kidneys cannot function without enough water.  When they don’t work to capacity, some of their load is dumped onto the liver.  One of the liver’s primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into useable energy for the body.  But if the liver has to do some of kidney’s work, it can’t operate at full throttle.  As a result it metabolises less fat, more fat remains in the body, and weight loss stops.

Did you know that craving and hunger, can be mistaken for thirst?
Yes,  that’s right, you might think you are hungry or crave something when in fact you might only be thirsty!!

Drinking enough water is the best treatment for fluid retention.  When the body gets less water, it perceives the threat to survival and begins to hold on to every drop.  Water is stored in extra cellular spaces (outside the cells).  This shows up as swollen feet, legs and hands.  Diuretics offer a temporary solution at best.  They force out stored water along with essential nutrients.  Again, the body perceives the threat and will replace the water at the first opportunity.  Thus the condition quickly returns.  The best way to overcome the problem of water retention is to give your body what it needs plenty of water.  Only then will stored water be released.

If you have a constant problem with water retention, excess salt may be to blame.  Your body will tolerate sodium only in certain concentrations.  The more salt you eat, the more water your system retains to dilute it.  But getting rid of unneeded salt is easy – just drink more water.  As it is forced thru the kidneys, it takes away excess sodium.

An  overweight, or unhealthy person needs more water than a thin person does.  Large people have larger metabolic loads.  Since we know water is the key to fat metabolism, it follows that the overweight person needs more water.  When you are sick or suffer from any medical condition,  drinking enough water will help flush out toxic and boost you immune system.

Water helps to maintain proper muscle tone.  It helps by giving muscles the proper ability to contract and prevent dehydration.  It also helps to prevent the sagging skin that usually follows weight loss: shrinking cells are buoyed by water, pluming the skin and leaving it clear, healthy and resilient.

Water helps rid the body of waste.  During weight loss, the body has a lot more waste to get rid of – all that metabolised fat must be shed.  Again, adequate water helps flush out the waste.

Often wonder why you get headaches during the day?
Well, with the above in mind also think about normal body functions and the organs performing those tasks.  Your body will not stop functioning the moment it runs out of water.

Example: your heart does  not stop until you drink water, or your lungs do not stop working because you don’t have water in your body, all it does is work slower and also reduce body function when water or food supply is low (Cellular Nutrition) and then goes to the colon where water is then recycled back into your body.

Mmmm, sewage water being reused… no wonder you have a headache….  The water that was suppose to leave your body is reused and that is one of the reasons why you might suffer from constipation and headaches.  (A lack of fibre in our diet is the main reason for constipation), with inadequate water supplies this problem is compounded.

Water can help relieve constipation.  When the body gets too little water, it syphons what it needs from internal sources.  The colon is one primary source.  Result?  Constipation.  But when a person drinks enough water, normal bowel function returns.

So far, we have discovered some remarkable truths about water and about weight loss.  The body will not function properly without enough water and cannot metabolise stored fat efficiently.  Retained water shows up as excess weight, to get rid of excess water you must drink more water.  Drinking water is essential to weight loss.  How much is enough?  On average, a person should drink eight glasses every day.  However, the overweight person needs one additional glass for every 10 kg’s of excess weight.  The amount that you drink should be increased if you exercise or if the weather is hot and dry.  Water should preferably be cold – it is absorbed more quickly into the system then warm water.  Some evidence suggests that drinking cold water can actually burn calories.  To utilize water most efficiently during weight loss, follow this schedule….

Morning and Noon:     2 ½ glasses consumed over 30 minutes
Evening:                      2 ½ glasses consumed between 5–8 pm

When the body gets the water it needs to function optimally, its fluids are perfectly balanced.  When this happens, you have reached the “breakthrough point”.  What does this mean?  The endocrine gland function improves fluid retention is alleviated as stored water is lost.  More fat is used because the liver is free to metabolise stored fat.  Natural thirst returns, there is a loss of hunger almost overnight.  If you stop drinking enough water, your body fluids will be thrown out of balance again and you may experience fluid retention, unexplained weight gain and thirst.  To remedy this situation you have to go back and force another breakthrough.

We all know our body is 80% water – but more than 95% of people take in less than half of the required amount of water!

I have a very nice excel calculator I can email you, just reply to my email and then I’ll send you the spreadsheet so that you can calculate your ideal daily water intake.

South Africa’s No 1 killer

Hope you are keeping yourself warm and that you have stocked up on all those immune boosting foods we spoke about last week?

This week, I want to share some facts and figures with you.

Do you know what is the no 1 killer in South Africa?  No, it’s not motor vehicle accidents or domestic violence, it’s Heart Disease. Yes, you read that 100% correctly.  More people will die this year because of Heart Disease than any other threat in SA.  Why?
Well as far as I am concerned there are a number of reasons for this, but before I get to them, let me share with you some very interesting facts and figures:

FACT:
70% of all natural deaths are caused by:
o   Heart Disease,
o   Strokes and
o   Cancer
>> MORE than 50% of these deaths are nutrition related

FACT:
74% of all doctors visits are from diet (nutrition imbalance) related conditions
The no 1 complaint is fatigue.

FACT:
According to Time Magazine, the following sickness are related to obesity (high body fat %)
o   Type 2 Diabetes
o   Cholesterol
o   High Blood Pressure
o   Cancer
o   Cardiovascular Disease
o   Osteoporosis
o   Arthritis
o   Menopausal Problems.

It’s because of the above facts and figure that we are desperate to educate and inform people about the real solution and that they no longer pump their bodies full of chemicals.
Let me remind you that the medical industry the way we know it today did not exist 300 years ago.
People had no need for chemicals every day, they lived off  the land, or had their own fresh food supply on their door.
Human beings  have been around for more than 60 million years, my question is how on earth did they survive for more than 60 million years without medical industry?  They could because the foods they consumed was packed with nutrition, raw and balanced.
The medical industry, I like to call it the “sickness industry”, created by mass food production, was invented just to make a profit and to  imprison people for the rest of their life by making them depend on chemicals to feel better.
If you know of someone currently on medication for whatever  reason, have you seen any improvement in their health while using the meds?
Fast food outlets, Mega super markets and entrepreneurs saw an opportunity to produce massive numbers of food for less and they sell that to use as “convenience”.
The food industry, mass production with very little nutrition cause our bodies to malfunction and become sick.  But that’s no problem to the sickness industry, in fact the pharmaceutical companies invested heavily in the food industry over the past 30 years.  They understand the more people consume the low nutritional value foods (that taste so good), the more they will profit when those people become sick.  They create their own customers, for life!!
I am getting carried away, let’s focus again on the no 1 killer: Heart Disease.
The most common heart disease is coronary heart disease, which often appears as a heart attack.
In 2010 an estimated 131,000 South Africa’s had a new coronary attack, and about 80,000 had a recurrent attack.
The chances of developing coronary heart disease can be reduced by taking steps to prevent and control factors that put people at greater risk.
Your diet, what you consume on a daily basis is the single most important factor to a healthy heart and cardiovascular system. The foods you eat either improve or destroy your health.  Imagine peak hour traffic.  Thousands of cars using the same highway or road to get from A-B.
Imagine the road expand when there are more cars using it to allow ease of use and contract when the peak hour is over. Your blood vessels and veins have the ability to contract and expand as the blood flow / pressure increase or decrease.
Now imagine you working in the garden.  You use one of your fingers and close the hosepipe outlet to increase the pressure inside the pipe and to spray the water further.  The hosepipe do not expand, in fact the pressure inside the pipe cause the water to shoot out.
When your blood vessels and veins become less flexible and lose the ability to contract and expand, the pressure inside your veins increase and cause higher blood pressure as a result.
At the same time, when blood vessel loses its flexibility, platelet buildup on the wall of your veins and blood vessels cause an increase in blood pressure.  When a piece of these “fatty deposits” break off or come loss, a heart attack or stroke is the result.
These 2 examples explains more or less what your cardiovascular system endures on a daily basis.  Your diet is responsible for the flexibility of your blood vessels and veins and the ability your blood vessels have to contract and expand preventing “rush hour” traffic.
I am sure your next question will be, so what should we or can I do to improve cardiovascular health?
This is very simple, make a couple of lifestyle improvements and change your diet or add to your diet.
Here are areas where you can possibly improve:

1.
Healthy Lifestyle and diet and increase nutrition

Mediterranean diet:
  • Choose lean meats and poultry without skin and prepare them without added saturated and trans fat.
  • Select fat-free, 1% fat, and low-fat dairy products.
  • Cut back on foods containing partially hydrogenated vegetable oils to reduce trans fat in your diet.
  • Cut back on foods high in dietary cholesterol. Aim to eat less than 300 mg of cholesterol each day.
  • Cut back on beverages and foods with added sugars.
  • Select and purchase foods lower in salt/sodium.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink in moderation. That means no more than one drink per day if you’re a woman and two drinks per day if you’re a man.
  • Keep an eye on your portion sizes.
  • Lose weight. Even if you only have 5kgs to lose – lose it.
  • Also understand the difference between losing body fat and maintaining muscle mass.
  • If you smoke,  quit
  • 2nd hand smoke is just as dangerous.  Avoid any 2nd hand smoke.

2. Exercise and fitness
I understand many people have a resistance to training.  They know they should try and do something, but they simply keep putting it off.  Yes it’s also winter time and who want to go out in the cold and do silly exercises.

Fact: doing 10 – 15 minus a day might feel like you wasting your time, but it has been proven to help blood circulation, maintain muscle tone and increase mental alertness.

Fact: doing a couple of “5 minute” exercise during the cause of the day is just as effective than going to the gym for 45mins.

Here are some ideas:
o   Take the stairs instead of the lift.
o   Park your car in the far corner and then walk to the shop.

By now I am sure you saying, Gideon it impossible to eat healthy, and despite our best intentions,  the shops these days simply do not offer the right stuff.  Look I understand, and that is why I also want to remind you of the Herbalife solution.  Last week I gave you some insights into how to boost your immune system and yes, although you might have read that and understand how to,  sometimes it just not practical.

Cardiovascular heath (heart health) starts with balanced nutrition.
When you feed your body what it needs, it will work better, you will feel better and your chances at getting the dreaded heart diseases is minimized.
The facts and figures  mentioned above speaks for itself.  People suffer from all sorts of health issues as a result of their food intake or lack their of.  Herbalife Formula 1 shake contains everything your body needs and in perfect balance.  You can use the Formula 1 shake as a breakfast, lunch or supper.  Many think of Herbalife as a weight loss product – yes you can lose weight on the product but the real reason for you getting long term health benefits or weight loss or weigh gain results is because of the increase in nutrition without all the calories.
Herbalife range can be classified into, Basic Core Nutrition:

Formula 1 (food and building blocks of the body),
Fibre & Herb, which cleanses and cleans  and helps with absorption and
Formula 2 – Multivitamin.

Enhancers & Targeted Nutrition – Specific product to help target a specific problem.
Introducing Niteworks.
Following the discovery of the health benefits of Nitro Oxide by Dr Louise Ignarro (1998 Nobel Laureate for Medicine), Herbalife has produced a product in association with Dr Ignarro called, Niteworks.
Herbalife Niteworks is packed with Amino Acids L-Arginine & L-Citrulline in the perfect quantity which when consumed before bed time, helps create an environment inside your body for Nitric oxide (NO) production which in turn helps to keep your blood vessels and veins flexible.
Flexible blood vessels and veins means no palette build up, no increase in blood pressure and no change for any damage to your cardiovascular system.
Many other health benefits have been recorded since 2005 when the product was first introduce.
Here are  just a couple of testimonials of some of our customers:
Leight Baron wrote:

“I started using Niteworks when it was launched in America because my family has a history of heart disease and so I wanted some insurance for my future.  I have found that I sleep better, wake up refreshed, have more energy and have an increased overall sense of wellbeing.
Most importantly for me, when my second child was born I had a prolapsed uterus which the doctors tried to repair after the birth of my 3rd child.  This caused pressure on my bladder and consequently I have, for 30 years, had a very weak bladder.
Since I became a Herbalife distributor drinking lots of water, this has caused me such a problem that I have had to wear panti pads as I was unable to control my bladder.   Since using Niteworks this weakness has almost completely disappeared.
These products have changed my life!!”
Monica Atrash wrote:

“I have been using Niteworks for 5 weeks now, before starting on the product I used to have a problem with waking up and getting out of bed., I had to rely on someone to wake me up. I am now waking up at 5:30 am on my own and I don’t struggle to get up, in fact I wake up feeling very refreshed and with an incredible sense of wellness, I will never stop using this product.”

“I am 63 years old and I live in Tongaat, North Coast. I used to suffer with blood pressure problem and this led to a stroke on my right side 3 years ago and I am confined to a wheel chair due to an amputation of my left leg and right foot.  While visiting my cousin in Gauteng one evening before going to bed he gave me a glass of liquid to drink and it tasted like a lemon drink. He did not tell me what it was, he just told me to drink it and it would help to sleep.
It’s actually amazing what has happened to me. I started to get some feeling back in my finger tips after the 3rd day. A few day later I was able to start moving my hand and I can comb my own hair and I can now move my hand much easier and I can lift a 3kg dumb bell.
I now sleep better, I have more energy and strength and I am hardly using my blood pressure medication.
By the way my cousin told me that the product he was giving me was Niteworks and I am very excited that the product is now available in South Africa and now I am using more products and I feel absolutely great.
I hope this testimonial can help other people. Thank you Dr Ignarro and Herbalife”

What is Cellular Nutrition?

Wow, isn’t it funny how we always wish things were were  different?  When it’s  hot we wish it was cold, when it rains for days we wish it would stop… jokes aside  this year has really been cold, and  I  for one wish it was a bit warmer! :-) How about you?

Many thanks  to everyone who responded on our last newsletter about the #1 Killer in SA. (If you did not get a copy of the newsletter, please reply to me and I’ll be happy to forward it to you.)

A common question I get: “Will Herbalife help for this…. (medical condition) … or … for that (health issue)?.” And almost 100% of the time the answer is YES!!!!!  Herbalife is Cellular Nutrition.

Now, having said that,  I think people see Herbalife as a weight loss product, but in fact all it is, is basic, balanced nutrition in an  easy absorbable format.  Herbalife is packed with balanced nutrition without all the calories.

When you use the basic Herbalife products: Formula 1, Fibre & Herb tablets and Formula 2 you give your body everything it needs on a daily basis and as a result your body is better equipped to deal with any health or medical condition.
When you are sick, under weight, overweight or simply lack energy your body is not in balance. Disease occurs  as a result of this imbalance.  Too much or too little.  Simply put your body is at DIS-EASE (not at ease).

Dr JF Demartini refers to disease as a “Feedback System”.   Your body gives you feedback when it’s not in balance. The question is do we listen??

Correcting the balance will correct or at least help to relieve the disease and / or its symptoms. Your body can heal itself, but it needs the right nutrition and to be in perfect balance.

Introducing Herbalife’s Cellular Nutrition ® Concept

Cellular Nutrition makes use of knowledge gained from the botanical world’s 6,000 year history and incorporates health building nutritional herbs with the best modern technology to help our bodies cleanse and detoxify so that the cells – the tiniest living units – can be as fully nourished as possible. This allows the cells to grow, repair and to perform their functions with the best possible efficiency so that we feel and look better and are more able to prevent and fight disease. Once the body begins to clear itself of toxins it can absorb nutrition more efficiently.

One of the main differences between Cellular Nutrition and other nutritional supplements is that supplements are rarely enough! Simply consuming good food and adding nutritional supplements will not make any difference to the way you feel if your body is unable to fully digest and absorb all the nutrition you eat!

DIETING
Dieting generally doesn’t work because when you starve the body of essential nutrients your metabolism slows down and you get hungry and grumpy!  To lose weight, you need to take  the fat out of your food and take in good nutrition. Because fat takes up more space than muscle you will find that once you start taking Herbalife’s Cellular Nutrition product range, you lose centimetres and change body shape dramatically.

Cellular Nutrition is a magical, fast food nutritional supplement that you can’t overdose on. It’s an all herbal pure food that provides the body with many of the micro-nutrients and botanical factors it needs every day. It helps to control and normalize your appetite, you lose centimetres and the appearance of cellulite, your energy doubles and even triples, you feel great and you can still eat the foods you love.

Used on a daily basis, it promotes better health by supplying good nutrition to your body at a cellular level which helps to rebuild and regenerate the villi.

So, to feel healthy, you have to be healthy;  to be healthy, you need to nourish your cells. We call this Cellular Nutrition, and it’s the scientific foundation of every product Herbalife offers. By supplying your cells with the proper balance of nutrients, your cells become more receptive, allowing them to efficiently absorb and process nutrients. Through Cellular Nutrition, Herbalife has created the best foundation for weight loss and lasting results. Nobel Laurrate, Dr Lui Ignarro, and other nutritional experts who form part of our Medical Advisory Board are committed to making Herbalife products the best in the world.

UCLA’s Cellular and Mollecular Laboratory is where all the research takes place and the lab carries the name of Mark Hughes, the founder of Herbalife, which is the greatest honour to Herbalife, UCLA being one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Nutritional and medical experts from all over the world form part of Herbalife Nutritional and Medical Advisory Boards.

Herbalife Sports Nutrition!

Dear Gideon

Just a word of thank you for supplying me with Herbalife core products, more specifically the new H3O!

As you are aware there are 2 things in life I love, cycling and cycling……in no specific order!

I have been taking part in endurance cycling events for approximately 10 years now and up to date battled to find the right product to use as a supplement that not only replenishes my energy levels for the duration of the events but also acts as a recovery drink at the same time, and guess what…….H3O does exactly that!

I have to admit that at first I only used H3O as a recovery drink after events, but found that to upset my system. I then realised after consulting with you that I should actually not use the H3O with other replenishment products, as H3O does all what is needed in the right amounts.

Recently I took part in a 24hour mountain bike even and I have to say that my energy levels were maintained throughout the event, which was very surprising as I expected to suffer from a serious blowout as that was one tough event.  I managed to do a great number of kilometres during the event, I unfortunately had to retire early from the event……my bum just could not take it anymore, he he!!

Before the H3O was introduced in SA, I fell in love with the Formula 1 shake, RoseOx, Thermojetics and NRG.  I used the Formula 1 shake as a supplementation to my diet and also while cycling.

After races and events it sometimes took me 3-4 days to recover, but using Herbalife has cut my recover to less than 1 day.  I also gained 7 kgs in 7 weeks and my energy levels are consistently high.

The H3O Sports drink simply put me over the edge and I enjoy every single event and challenge

2011 will see our club undertaking a cycle tour from Springs (Gauteng) to Cape Town (Western Cape) in March. (Over 1300 km’s). Our goal is to raise funds for schools for disabled kids. All is on track for us to depart on the 4th of March and reach Cape Town by the 10th of March in time to take part in the 2011 Cape Argus as the final leg of our tour. This will be a challenge to handle more than 1300km on our bicycles in one week, trust me I have stocked up on the H3O for this trip. You can follow our progress here: http://www.impcc.co.za/

I will keep you posted on how the event went and hope I have some more good news regarding this rather unique product!

Thank you for your friendly advice and support! Keep up the good work!

Regards
Mathys
