First let's calculate how much weight is "excess", and distribute it over a weight management period that is achievable. The chart below shows the 'normal' weight range of men and women, based on height and structure.


Example using chart above :


  • You currently weigh 72 kilos. Your height is 165cm,
  • Your structure is medium. Therefore your 'normal'
  • weight range should be : 53-59 kilos.
  • You would need to lose between 13 and 19 kilos.

Safe and effective weight loss is best achieved slowly and steadily, this slow method is better for the body - if weight is lost to fast, the body switches to 'survival mode' and tries even harder to retain fat as fuel for later use, because the enforced 'starvation' (reduced calorie intake) is seen as a threat to survival.


During the program, your weight loss rate will vary. For instance in the first couple of weeks, the rate can be considerably faster as the body releases stored water. After this initial 'rapid' period, the weight reduction rate slows down. We will therefore use a distribution period rate of two kilos lost on a average per month. Your actual weight loss rate may be higher or lower, depending on how active your lifestyle is and whether you include regular exercise. Weight loss also varies with the seasons, for instance, during the cold winter months, cold weather, reduced activity and heavier foods, can slow the body's metabolism slightly, which in turn can slow weight loss.


Example : A person needing to lose 18 kilos:


  • 18 kilos divided by 2 kilos = 9 months
  • If the same person were to include 30-40 minutes of exercise 3-4 times a week, this rate could increase to 3 kilos per month
  • 18 kilos divided by 3 kilos = 6 months
